Calcite in jewellery?

I have a small nugget of calcite that I'd like to process for my wife's engagement ring. Would this work and be hardy enough?

Who's your wife marrying?!?

Calcite is pretty soft, so not convinced it would do too well on a ring, particularly given the small size it would need cutting to, by which time, I doubt you'd be able to see any of the patterning on it.

You could probably polish up a couple of bits into earrings, though they may be a bit heavy by the time they are big enough to show off the calcite... Necklace perhaps?

You would need to treat it the same way as Blue John and saturate it in resin before working it, there are folk on here who have more experience with B.J. than me, if they don't get back to you, let me know and I'll P.M. someone.
