History happened in the past according to academics. Here's concise version I'll start with. As ever comments and thoughts welcome.

Large swathes of Blyth Power's back catalogue cover historical themes but the absolute best one is "Katharine's Will" off "Out From Under the King" - a superb tale of coping with an intolerable situation through force of will, knowing the end  can't be far away, and a track that helped me through some low points.
It's on soundcloud as a single track here - https://soundcloud.com/blyth-power/katherines-will but the whole album is on Youtube and worth a listen:

If all you want is as much historical narrative, detailed and fairly accurate, crammed into one song, I don't think you can do better than this quarter hour history of the life and death of James Graham, Marquess of Montrose (1612-1650) and his role in the Scottish and English Civil Wars.

Connoisseurs of delicate acoustic guitar playing may be interested to see Martin Carthy playing rather heavy electric guitar. There are a few transcription errors in the lyrics shown.

This one always reminds me of a certain caving club's annual dinner at Castle Bolton!
It was a good do . . . .
