TSG 19 Released
« on: September 27, 2017, 01:00:21 am »
The new TSG Journal, TSG 19, has just been released, and will be available to purchase at Hidden Earth for £25.

The Journal is 206 pages long, full-colour throughout, with six A3 foldouts, 18 surveys, and around 250 photographs. All the major TSG exploration/survey projects since TSG 18 (2010) are documented within - White Rake, Raddlepits, Pit Props Series, Ink Sump/Doom's Retreat, JH West Extensions, Krypton Series, Bullpit and the Longcliffe Mine restoration project - along with many other articles on a variety of club-related caving topics, especially conservation - including the White River cleanup, Speedwell lightbulb-changing, the Boulder Piles drainage project and the Titan shaft repair. Also contained are articles on foreign trips (past and present), important resurveys, new discoveries, and some recent Castleton cave science with potentially important developments for the Peak-Speedwell system.

Ordering direct from the TSG website will be available after Hidden Earth, with or without postage, if collection from the Chapel, or caver post is preferred.

The new TSG Journal, TSG 19, has just been released, and will be available to purchase at Hidden Earth for £25.

The choices of Payment will be: Contactless, Chip and Pin, Cash and Cheque. So plenty of choice.
The card reader should be in action by the weekend, some teething problems at the moment.

Goydenman, are you/any Black sheep/ULSA going to Hidden Earth?
If there are, then we could arrange something to save you some pretty pennies.

Mein Gott! £25.00 + post

Surely you qualify for a review copy ?  :)
Which I'll then buy from you second hand at half the price, and we'll both benefit !  :) :) :)

Only if it has lots of pictures.

Just realised, it has 250 pictures.  Well worth reviewing.

Fully agree - I've already purchased mine; just waiting for a caver post opportunity.

I'd prefer to leave it till after the BCA Conference. I may be in Castleton anyway soon. So please don't pass my copy to anybody in Bristol this coming weekend. (But thanks for the thought.)

Already got my copy, but I only live ten minutes from the editor so that helped.

A very good read with some great pictures. It's well worth the money.

If it sound expensive, it's worth putting that amount into perspective. I spend that on an average caving weekend in Castleton, and that's trying to save money! Those cakes are expensive too. But this will last way longer than cake, and looks a lot better too. We also decided to have it printed in Sheffield rather than China, which admittedly will have added some extra cost, but local businesses need support too, and it only took a week of production, with a five-minute collection - I suspect printing abroad would have been much more hassle, taken far longer, and with no real consultation.

But if you like photos, you'll be very happy, as it's a veritable photo-album. Not only that, but some of the work (like the Pit Props explorations and resurvey) has produced some serious results already, not least in understanding more about the mining activities that went on in Speedwell, and partly clarifying how the miners found all these mineralised zones and large natural caverns before they dug the canal tunnel to them. Still plenty of mysteries remaining though. Additionally, the cave science we've been involved with should hopefully shed more light on what the hell goes on in the huge empty sections of the Peak-Speedwell survey at the north end.

Empty space to me means 'loads still to find', not 'nothing there'...;)

Bring one along A_Northerner, whoever you may be, i'm sure you'll have a few copies in the SUSS library (your house).

Can I put that last line on a t-shirt? ;)

But thanks for that. Ever the perfectionist, I have found a couple of tiny typos since, but I'm not going to start cutting myself over those. We do what we can. But we should have PayPal buttons on the club website shortly, so mail-order will then be available for those now convinced they'd also like to reach a higher level.

I've just received my copy (thanks to benfool's kindness in transporting it up to the Dales for me).

I'm incredibly impressed with both the quality of the presentation and the value of all the information in this outstanding journal. Well done to all concerned and especially to Mr pwhole. Massive, massive achievement!

Be glad it's just typos, Phil -  I proof-read the latest Mining History and look what both Steve and I failed to  notice about page 29! :wall:
