Channel 5 tonight at 11.15 pm.

Tom Backhouse investigates a sinkhole caused by a collapsed mine shaft, including one in Gosforth that opened up in front of a flat and led down to an abandoned mine.

Long passed by bed time.  If anybody can keep awake that long, please let me know how they got on.

Some people have all the luck

It was on at a more sensible time a couple of days ago - it was a little bit sensationalised in places, and included recent mine-related problems but did point out that building without paying attention to what was underneath is in part what causes problems! Some footage of John Barnatt in Ecton with the guy doing the recent laser scanning, also various CA people, and a lady in Roy's neck of the woods having trouble selling her house because there _might_ have been a shaft in her neighbour's garden.

Apparently you are supposed to be 16 to watch it:

Episode 3 is yet to air, but part 1 included gypsum collapses in Ripon that may have inspired Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & bone deposits in Florida's limestone at Devil's Millhopper, along with the famous bus in a chalk tunnel in Norwich and disappearing Corvettes in a Kentucky Museum...

It seemed over sensationalised . They kept going on about how Britain was riddled with mines and how all of them were going to collapse.  Quite good fun trying to name the mine from the underground picture though. The Cathedral featured a couple of times
