They were better than the first edition Gary. Especially the Wharfedale one with Sleets Gill on the front: the binding fell apart with the slightest provocation. The rather muddy pages of mine are currently held together with a rubber band. The first edition of the Northern Dales is also rather special as it has a photograph of a Sadly "lost" cave which current generations of cavers might never see - Luneheads Mine Cave.

Useful information Mike - to which I add:

http://nymcc.org.uk/publications/moldywarps-speleological-group/

This is the North York Moors Caving Club site where you can read the excellent Moldywarps journals online. I'm really grateful to the NYMCC for making this invaluable resource available because these journals are among the best.

Luneheads was only re-opened for a very short time when a mining company inpected the workings (see MSG journal). We managed a few commando style friday night trips and surveyed the caves / took photographs. The adit was very long and each week the water got deeper until getting to the cave involved an olympic wading effort. I do
remember looking up the airshaft from inside and it was taking water but blocked with hanging death. A few years ago I had a look from the outside and the shaft was filled to about 20 foot down with very squishy fertiliser bags. Even if it is open it would drop into the level at a point where it must be flooded to the roof and there will probably be half a mile of that.....the mining company JCB'd the entrance in when they had finished.
Richard, I did put a couple of Ian Davidsons photographs on Aditnow - they were of me when I was still at school in the 70s. Just checked and they are still there, plus someone has added a photo of the entrance back in the 70s and it is exactly the same as I remember. the main issue being dodging all the nesting dippers as they flew out. I doubt anyone will ever forget that.

Thank You Pitlamp and Black Shiver.....

Black Shiver..... does this mean if someone was to push an upstream choke in Far Beck Bridge Cave (?) they might unleash such a torrent of water that not only would they carried back downstream through the cave and shot out of the entrance like a high speed bullet, but also all the farms down the valley would be demolished in the wake of a monumental tsunami style wave ?

In a glass presentation cabinet, for their more precious books, in the Skipton Oxfam book shop, on the High Street.....
Is a copy of Northern Caves , sorry  can not remember which volume....
The price was ?24..

Coming to think of it I was  also in Skipton Library, reference section, last Tuesday..... and noticed on a shelf the complete set of Northern Caves, minus one volume.......

I wonder..........

2xw has been digging with him, so Gibby's caves must be part of the Greater Stoney Master system. otherwise why bother?
