Pen-y-ghent pond

Anyone any knowledge on the pond just off the runners path down from Pen-y-ghent pinnacles? Is higher than Hull Pot and big enough to be highly visible when descending from the Pinnacles...

It's called the Tarn - and is of interest for being a big shakehole on the Hull Pot fault.
Stands out a mile on Google Earth.

It's been discussed on here before - try a bit of searching.

Have you been past it this weekend Cazza? Just wondering what the water level's like at the moment.

Looks about 18in down - the dry earth surround is about twice the height of the surrounding turf. But I have a strong suspicion that Cazza may be the person who posted the pic on my facebook, so they may well post it here.

Thanks Kay.

I'm pretty sure there's a useful note about this Tarn in Part 2 of the recently published BCRA book Cave & Karst of the Yorkshire Dales. (My copy's not to hand as I type.)
