Sometimes Cover Songs Are OK

Lets's face it a lot of songs are covers these days, but sometimes a good live one comes along. There's loads out there.  It's nice when they are appreciative of the original and it works well.
I'll start with The Killers covering the Waterboys  'Whole of the Moon'.  As ever thoughts, comments, and reminiscing when enjoyment was allowed, are welcome.

I think this is the ultimate cover song ever; true to the original, not taking the pi$$ and passing it off as their own but with an edge that makes it just different enough to be worthwhile. This stands shoulder to shoulder with the original.

This is just magnificent in every way. Turn up to maximum and enjoy:

How about a cover of a cover? I prefer Joe Cocker's version of "A Little Help From My Friends" over the original Beatles version and the Classic Rock Show do a good rendition of Cocker's version:

Probably unpopular opinion, but rate the moulin rouge version of Roxanne over The Police's version..

The Sisters of Mercy's speed come-down paranoia-drenched take on "Gimme Shelter" is way, way better than the Stones original version!

One of my favourite bands of all time, despite having to sort Bez out once at the GMex as he was 'stood oop'. Those were a funny few years, largely down to the sheer exuberance of Tony Wilson - what a dude. Nobody else could have brought Manchester and Sheffield together in those days - we had some great parties. Their cover of John Kongos' 'He's gonna step on you again' was originally recorded for an Elektra compilation of covers of previous artists, but accidentally became a huge hit everywhere, and we all know that one and it's magnificent. So they decided to cover another John Kongos song for the compilation, the lesser-known 'Tokoloshe' Man, which is this one right here:

Some cover songs nail it in ways the original doesn't. Disturbed is good at this, far more so than anything original by them. They nailed Land of Confusion by Genesis
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YV4oYkIeGJc,
and Simon and Garfunkel's Sound of Silence

Some are in a totally different, tongue in cheek style, like Hayseed Dixie

and Steven' Seagulls

Some cover's, or arrangements are mindblowing. Classical pieces on electric guitar are a good example. Here's the 3rd movement of Moonlight Sonata, arguably played better than they guy who arranged it for guitar.

Here's something based on Vivaldi's four seasons from the same lass.

This took an eternity to write as I watched all of these... again. NewStuff doesn't watch telly, and hasn't for decades, fecking loves music though.

Siouxie and The Banshees done a whole album of covers called "Through The Looking Glass". Every one is a gem!

Spooky, had that very album blasting out on the car stereo this morning.

Something a little different. Better than the Peggy Seger original in my opinion.
