Lancaster Hole Gate

Hi

I seem to remember having read that Lancaster Hole was once gated and locked in the 1930s? and then subsequently removed (by chemical persuasion?)

can anyone remember where this is written?

thanks

7th Paragraph regarding the renewal of the BSA lease for the Easegill system.

Accordingly, it was decided that a metal lid should be fitted to the Lancaster Hole shaft. [/quote]

Though the chemical persuasion may be artistic licence, see later paragraph...

Didn't Oxford Pot also get banged by the other side to maintain a single controlled entrance? I seem to remember something to that effect in the Cave Explorers.

One minor additional detail ? I believe that Lancaster Hole was first entered in 1946.

This has me worried, for a moment I thought there was serious consideration to locking Lanc hole.
