Forum woes

Lately when I use the forum I look at a few of the boards and then find that I have been logged out. I click login and am back in with no problems but the threads I have looked at are still marked as unread and I have to view them again or mark them read.

I have the "stay logged in" box set at "Forever".
Is this a change in the software or perhaps a bug of some sort (or perhaps even "intended"?

This is no biggie but is slightly annoying. It didn't used to happen.

I've also found this in the last couple of days, and also that the system does not keep me logged in even when I set the 'stay logged in forever' box to 'on'.

I have just completely re-installed my OS (MacOS 10.6) so I did think it was probably a problem at my end, but Les will be in Windows so maybe it's not.

Further to this, on my netbook, not only did I lose the log in but Firfeox lost my stored password as well. That has never happened before and is somewhat alarming.

Windows7 lite on that.

Same thing has been happening to me from home and work computers. Fortunately I actually remember my password but it is mildly anoying.

Same problem here - Firefox on OS X 10.6, and whatever Safari type clone my Nokia Mobile runs. Both get logged out.
I haven't noticed a losing password issue, but I don't let my browsers remember any passwords anyway.
I haven't done any software updates lately, so it can't be down to that.

My browser (Firefox) remembers the password so I just click "log in" and I am back in. It is annoying if I read a load of threads then find I am logged out. I have to go back to all the threads and "read" them again or mark them as read.

Like I said, no biggie, just an annoyance, but it is different behaviour to what I am used to so assume something must have changed or be wrong.

Glad its not just me then [phew],

either a firefox thing or a forum software update (which is more likely since its affecting everyone on this site).

Guess Bubs/Siger etc will know.

I've not had this problem. I'm using Firefox at home, Windows at work, and no problems on my mobile phone either.

It's nothing to do with Firefox or your OS, it's the forum software.

I've tried rebuilding the sessions table and rebooted the server - not sure if it'll work.

Logged in first time since this morning. Dropped out immediately. Fortunately it remembered my login this time.

I was logged in, typed a post, hit "Post" and was taken to the login screen - lost half my post and had to retype!

Also has anyone else noticed that "Show unread posts since last visit" tends to drop the last message? That is, when there are only two messages and you read the first then hit "Show unread posts since last visit", you get an empty list.

How is having a strong password going to stop the problem when the issue is bots using incorrect passwords anyway?

Having a strong password won't solve the problem but it will help to ensure that peoples accounts don't get hacked.
