AVOID GAPING GILL FRIDAY 14TH / SATURDAY 15TH JANUARY

As you may know from a separate topic, there is a hanging tree just below the lip of Gaping Gill Main Shaft. Plans are in hand to remove this as soon as possible. There is a risk of soil and rocks falling down the shaft. So:

* Please do not plan to go down Main Shaft / Lateral Shaft on Friday or Saturday 14th / 15th January. (It's already booked onto the CNCC system for this work to be done on those two days.)

* If you go into the system via a different entrance you MUST stay well away from the foot of Main Shaft.

Apologies if you were planning a visit which this affects but the above must be adhered to if the problem is to be dealt with safely. Thanks for your understanding. (Any change to this arrangement would be posted here.)

REMINDER - this is happening today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday).

Best to avoid Main Chamber altogether but, if you do pass through, stay well away from the bottom of GG Main Shaft.

Yes.

UKC is the back up to the signs, not the other way around.

Part of the reason for posting here was to try to avoid inconveniencing anyone planning a trip down the main shaft today or tomorrow.

The tree work at Gaping Gill was safely completed today, ahead of schedule, thanks to Jason Mallinson and team. Everything is now as normal so if anyone wants to go down Main Shaft tomorrow (Saturday 15th) there's no problem.

All warning signs have now been removed and I'm about to "unbook" Gaping Gill Main Shaft on the CNCC website for tomorrow.
