Hi there,

We're planning a trip to Aggy this weekend and would like to get to Priory Rd. Can anyone help and tell me how to get there from the Southern Streamway.

Hi farmergiles, it's quite straightforward to get to Priory Rd. from Southern Stream Passage.

About 2/3rds of the way down Southern Steam you come to the waterfall beyond which the passage gets a lot easier (basically just sideways walking).  Keep looking up and you'll soon see the start of a passage in the roof.  This is Gothic Passage.  There is a hand line and traverse on the right at a wedged block, which gets you up into Gothic. Look out for the lovely crystals coating the walls.

Gothic starts off walking height but soon lowers to hands and knees and then down to flat-out just before a T-junction.  Turn left here and very soon you reach a flat-out crawl on the right.  This is the original dig via which Priory Road was discovered.  A short crawl leads to a dip in the floor and then one of those horrible, flat-out, 45 deg., upwards crawls which I find really knackering.  This pops you out into Priory Road by Ribbed Vault which is an impressive aven.

Right at the T-junction leads to Resurrection and Maytime.

So basically climb into Gothic Pass., turn left then right.

No problem!

Are you going / did you go to the new stuff - the Illes Inlet extensions?  If so how about a trip report? :)

We had a great trip down there on Saturday. Though it was a little tougher than I was expecting. Got up to Priory Rd, we didn't find the new stuff by the time we had to turn round. Later at the Chelsea hut we found out we were only 20 metres away, doh!!!
I thought the bit where you go up to priory Rd from The Stream way (is that Gothic pasage) was absolutly bloody lovely.
My knees are killing me today. I think next time I'll take extra pads.

Glad to hear you had a good trip. Southern Stream does go on a bit doesn't it!  The start of Priory Road (and the far end for that matter) are a bit crawly too.

It's a pity you missed the new stuff, as it looks well decorated from the Photos. But then you would have needed another hour or two to look around anyway.

Yes the passage directly up from the streamway is Gothic.  It is very nice – pity it doesn't go on a bit longer though.

The extensions are good but there's at least another 20 minutes of fairly tough caving to get to the pretties once you've forked off from Priory road, worth a trip for sure though!
