MANUAL DEL ESPELEOSOCORRISTA  [Manuel of Cave Rescue] Anon 95 pp, many colour illus.  This book might be in Spanish, but there are so many pictures you will have not difficulty in following the instructions. SB In Spanish £7.50

LE GROTTE DELLA CALABRIA / Guida alle maggiori cavita carsiche della regione by Felice Larocca 1991  219 pp 94 colour photos 11 figs 29 surveys.  Calabria is not so much the foot of Italy, but the ankle (or so Tony says).  This book describes the top 25 caves with all the usual details, location, length, depth, geology, history, bibliography etc.  Illustrated with some fine photos, this is both a guide and a coffee table book.  SB In Italian £10.00

THE CAVES OF SCHICHALLION by Peter Dowswell [pub as] the Limestone Caves of Scotland volume 4 1980 by Peter Dowswell  55 pp 23 maps / surveys.  Detailed description of an interesting series of caves near Aberfeldy in Perthshire.  SB £7.50

UNDERWATER GUIDE TO THE LOT & DORDOGNE / FRANCE by Andrew Ward 1997  50 pp 7 photos 17 surveys location map.  Described as "one of the best cave diving areas in the world", this will make those Florida divers sit up and take notice.  SB colour cover £7.00

CMC RAPPEL MANUAL by James A Frank and Donald E Patterson  1997  126 pp, lots of photos etc.  Most of this book is on Rappelling or descending down a rope.  There is only one chapter about getting back up.  I liked the bit about rappelling through a window.  It recommends shooting it out first with a machine gun.  Never did find out what CMC stands for.  SB £22.00

XINGWEN China Caves Project 1989-1992 by A C Waltham and R G White. 1993  48 pp, lots of photos, summary in Chinese.  Even includes a chapter on Tibet. SB £4.00

USA 89 Army Caving Association  34 pp, 9 colour photos, 3 B&W photos, 5 loose surveys in the rear, location map etc.  The object of this expedition was to promote friendly relations between the British Army cavers  and our American counterparts.  Not having read the report, so I cannot confirm this, but they did visit some caves in North Tennessee and Mammoth Cave.  SB £3.00

THE UNTAMED RIVER EXPEDITION /Nakanai Mountains, East New Britain, Papua New Guinea by David W Gill 1988  89 pp, many photos surveys etc.  A detailed report on some mega caves.  SB £10.00

PROYECTO CERRO RABON 1990-1994 Oaxaca, Mexico by Thomas Bitterli  1996  192 pp,  158 figs many are photos, surveys etc.  Finds include a huge cave system L 19 km –1181m deep and still going.  In four languages, including English.  £21.99

THE WORLD OF CAVES by Tony Waltham  1976  128 pp.  This was one of the first caving coffee table books with a colour photo on nearly every page.  Chapters include The Subterranean World; Life in Caves; Cave Dwellers and their art;  The Study of caves; Caves around the World; The Lure of Adventure; Deepest and Longest; etc.  The DW is a little ragged but the books is VG.  Ex library with stamp.  HB DW £10.00

CAVING AND POTHOLING by Robinson and Green bank [1964]  171 pp 12 plates 11 figs.  One of the better books on caving techniques.  The illustrations were very popular and were reprinted extensively.  HB ex library £5.00

PREHISTORIC MUMMIES FROM THE MAMMOTH CAVE AREA / Foundations and Concepts.  edited by Angelo I George 1990  115 pp  illus.  This is an interesting collection of articles, mainly from the 19th century which not only describe the 'mummies' found in the caves of Kentucky and Tennessee but give a good insight into early caving in this area. SB secondhand only £3.00

CAVES AND CAVE DIVING by Guy de Lavaur, trans Edmund J Mason  [1956]  175 pp 21 line drawings, 21 plates.  A very readable introduction to both caving and cave diving with first hand accounts of exploration in the Henne Morte, Padirac and other caves. This is the `proper' edition with the plates.  HB DW £12.00

MENDIP UNDERGROUND / A Caver's Guide by D J Irwin and A J Knibbs  1987  212 pp photos 7 maps.  Many new caves are described and full details given of the very complex access arrangements.  SB well used  £3.00
