Expedition Skills Training Workshop

For many years the Dachstein Expedition has laid on a training event for expeditioners of all abilities.  Everyone is welcome, regardless of whether or not they're going to Austria.  That means that if your group is caving abroad then it may be worth sending them to us for the weekend.  We don't bite.  Much.

Date: Bank Holiday weekend of May 3rd.
Venue: Welsh International Climbing Centre, Bargoed, near Cardiff.
Basic Plan: Arrive Fri night (sleeping at wall, bar on site etc).
Sat: "Round-Robin" style covering SRT (from basic upwards to pitch-head & mid rope rescues etc); ladder & lifeline (dwindling skills amongst cavers); surveying (in artificial cave); first aid.
Later in day there'll be a workshop on expedition-style rescue procedures; emergencies; etc....
Sun: Cave Rescue Practice in OFD2.

Trainers: lot of experience out there & we make the most of it (have at least three IRATA Level 3's helping for free & that's rare!).  Anyone wanting to assist should let me know.

Cost: I blag a good deal from the managers of the Wall: probably less than ?15 each all-in, including basic meals.  For more information look at the Facebook Group  "Cave Expedition Skills Workshop www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=11189777582.

Anyone interested then please mail me, join the Group, or use this forum.

Cheers.

That sounds great. I'll be there if I can make it. I've also sent an email about it to a couple of other guys from UBSS who are going  to China with me this summer to try to drum up some interest. (y)

The Expedition Training Workshop is happening THIS weekend and if you're planning on coming then you need to let us know asap as we've got to organise food etc for everyone.  Main details are on the Facebook site:

Cave Expedition Training Weekend
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=11189777582

Those people assisting with training include: Tom Chapman (IRATA Lvl3), Joel Corrigan (IRATA Lvl3),  Martin Groves, Andy Harp, Ian Holmes, Rich Hudson(IRATA Lvl3),Brian Jopling (manufacturer of stretchers), Robbie Shone (IRATA Lvl3), Matt St Clair, Kev Welch.

Workshops on the Saturday include SRT (ranging from quite basic stuff to pretty advanced things depending upon previous experience), surveying, cave photography (run by the god-like Robbie!), 1st aid, safety on the hills & prospecting, emergency procedures, kit selection, etc...  On the Sunday we've got a cave rescue practice.  Some of the volunteers are travelling from all over the UK and between them they have at least five minutes of hard-core expedition experience....  Add to this or send me a PM.
