On 4th January 2020 Simon sadly died whilst cave diving in Lancaster Hole, Cumbria. He was 49 years old and the cause of the accident is still being investigated. Simon was a very strong caver and a talented cave diver, being a Pegasus Caving Club member throughout most of the years he was active. He kept himself exceptionally fit through regular fell running and was one of only a very few people to have completed a winter Bob Graham Round (running 42 Lake District peaks in under 24 hours). A typical Lancashire lad, Simon was modest, generous and likeable but he had a huge list of achievements to his name. Obituaries can be found in Descent 273 (April / May 2020) pages 34-35 and in Cave Diving Group Newsletter 215 (April 2020) pages 2-3. Tributes from his own club members can also be found online here:  https://www.pegasuscavingclub.org/tribute-to-simon-halliday and further information about the events of 4th January is available here: https://ukcaving.com/board/index.php?topic=25936.0
