Apparently Gillettes advert calling out toxic masculinity has provoked a furious response amongst some "men".

What is wrong with these people?

They desperately want to be 'woke'. They are vehemently opposed to sexism of all kinds. But they have beards.

They probably drink in pubs rather than coffee boutiques.

Most cavers are (unfortuately) blokes. Is that a sexist statement? Do we have a sexist sport? Does anyone care?

The majority no, but majorities don't count anymore.

Did you post the exact same question on UKClimbing as well? https://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/off_belay/gillette-698965

Yes. Interestingly that got 72 replies while on here it got 6!

UK climbing is not a good place to gauge sensible opinions. And lots of the folk on there seem to spend an unhealthy amount of time prowling the forums looking for ?debate?.

A) do cavers shave less & thus care less about the advert...
B) do climbers spend more time on forums waiting for conditions suitable to get out...
C) are there more climbers than cavers...

I can also confirm that getting your beard caught in a rack is another technique for depilation ;)

I'll bite

I was amused by the response to the advert. Doddery old gammon coloured snowflakes getting worked up about "muhh politicul erectness gun mad" and using meaningless EDL buzzwords like "virtue signalling". The world is changing and they can't keep up so it must be wrong.

The message of the advert is "don't be a dickhead". People who are offended by this must logically be dickheads or why would they be worried  :tease:

Taking offense at anything is a sign of stupidity. Giving the "message" of any advertisement a moments consideration is an act of intellectual surrender.

There's no intellectual consideration needed in any advert. They are there to sell.

The only thing you're surrendering to is persuasion to purchase the product.
