My First Digging Discovery

The Old Ruminator

Time to be retrospective rather than ruminative. Going through stuff to write up caving in the 1960's. This first appeared in The Mendip Caver in Dec. 1964. Written at that time by a fellow called Tony Oldham. ADO or mostly kindly attributed. " Much ADO about nothing ". It got reprinted in The British Caver by Gerald Platten volume 44 1966.

Holwell Cavern was my first caving trip and my first digging place. I took my first caving photograph there in 1963. It lead to the meeting of three cave diggers who have worked together for nearly 60 years. These being me, Pete Rose and good old chap Mr O' Doc, Peter Glanvill. We have found the odd bits of cave over the years including a new chamber at Fairy Cave Quarry this year.

Me and friend Rodney Pike at Holwell 1964.
