What happened to "flaming June"?

Total of 74 mm of rain near Clapham over the last 2 days (and counting).

I hope it's not going to turn into one of "those" summers.

Sorry, it's my fault. I ordered a large paddling pool online and spent two hours blowing it up without a pump. This was the day before the rain came.

Saves you filling it up with the hosepipe, I guess.
Every cloud has a silver lining . . . .  (y)

What sort of rain gauge is that? As tippers tend to over-record in windy conditions. Weatheronline shows 60mm at Shap, but only 27mm at Warcop (which are only 30km apart) in last 72 hours.

Just a cheap spike gauge Mike.

I did actually do a pre-empty last night to add to what was in it this morning. It was raining continuously and really windy and I find this ploy reduces the chances of losing any of the rain caught.

Still sunny down south, except for a little shower on Saturday!  ;)

Typical . . .

When it's the other way around, somehow it becomes some sort of national emergency!

Eye, the summer monsoon has arrived.  Very wet conditions underground yesterday and that was just in a little high level cave.  Streams spouting from all corners where they had been dry for months.  I think we'll be waiting until September until we see any extended dry weather again.

We had torrential downpours here (north of Bristol) on Saturday, but it was bone dry when I was underground on Mendip the same evening...

It's because lock-down is being lifted: The more it lifts, the more it rains. It's the law of sod in action.

I did say back in April this would happen, hence why I started caving even if I could only do it solo, as soon as we were allowed to drive.

Hi Badlad, are we allowed to know the name of this
little high level cave.  Streams spouting from all corners where they had been dry for months?
Or is it a secret dig?  :)

Different story up here in the Dales. Here's a picture of the weir on the Ribble at Settle.

The CPC webcams are worth a look; it looks as thought the water's still rising in both Brant's Gill and the Ribble.

It is making more caves - warm rain, perfect for the job

It's amazing how different it is here in the Peak. Not only have we had hardly any significant rain (15mm in the last week recorded in Buxton), the river levels are all still very low. Here's a summary of the last 8 months just downstream from Buxton:
