just as an aside this "extra" Open weekend was started to fund the DCC Albanian expedition (see Rest of the World forum).  Iirc all the gear was stolen so it's great that that this post Easter Open Weekend is very popular and has been a boon to expedition funds.

Just got back from a trip. Very interesting. Certainly busy today. Defo be back for Wood in September.

If you're making a long journey you might consider a "private" West Mine trip and stay over on Saturday night. There are usually quite a few camping near Wood.

Thanks for that. Yes sounds like a good idea. I assume it's fine for 15 year olds? Does say you need a head for heights on DCC website.

There's much more fixed ladder work and an airy traverse. Make sure he or she has a cow's tail or sling and krab to attach him to the wire on the traverse.

He or she might also read , or re-read , the Weirdstone of Brisinghamen by Alan Garner. Many scenes are set in West Mine (Great Arroyo, Svartmoot, Plank Shaft) , a couple of descriptions are of Wood Mine (red passage) and Engine Vein (the children's exit).
