Old Lumens vs New Lumens

Here's a link to a 1995 article by the late Tony Knibbs on, well, lumens of bulbs.  Some of the pictures of graphs seem to have gone away, but the tables are still there.  So not so long ago a few dozen lumens was a luxury....

A good old AA incandescant Mini Maglite will chuck out about 14 lumens.  Enough to get you out of a cave.  Indeed an AA Maglite was attached to my lid for many years as a back up.

FX2 was nice, FX3 or an FX5, well, that was luxury.  And add a halogen bulb to a Petzl Zoom, sorted!

LED upgrade for the Mini Maglite

I have one of these and it's one downside is that being a couple mm thick in the heatsink, it reduces the amount rotation required to turn on the light.

I still use it on my helmet, much to the amusement of Scurion etc. wearers.

I found a bulb one in Wales, advertised on web to locate owner, unsuccessful, so tried it out.
Choice was put it back where I found it, or just give it away. Chose latter.

It is a lamp thread and we could all do with a laugh.
email received from 'guess where' advertising a miners lamp:

"KL5LM(B) model with much convenient Mechanical twist switch to turn on/ off the light and bulletproof PC housing;"

Bulletproof beats my TGX which is only hammer proof!

Maybe the cave monsters are getting organised and are trading up 'borrowed' ice axes for AK47s?  A 3 inch thick glass and polycarbonate layered lens should do it...
