Reported on uk.rec.caving, looks like the culprit was in a blue van, so keep your eyes peeled.....

If this keeps happening then we'll stake the usual spots out with a video camera....

Talking of thefts in the area, someone's been and nicked the pulley from the Son of Nettle dig!

Is nothing safe anymore??? :p

I think "borrowed" was the phrase you were after. :D

Still no joy in finding a replacement. We'll be in the white hart from about 10:00 onwards. If you dont turn up - Jon will put it in a bag and put it just over the wall by the gate at SON on his way home.

More break-ins:

Need a couple of people with strategically placed cars to wait for them to have a go, then follow them to find out where they live perhaps.

In light of these thefts, Hitch and Hike are very generously offering the following (from Peak District Caving)

Due to the current spate of thefts from unattended vehicles Hitch n Hike at Bamford are offering cavers the use of their storeroom for safe storage of spare gear, rucsacks, valuables etc. while underground.
Whilst they can't take ultimate responsibility for items left the service is free and a lot safer than leaving stuff in vehicles. Kit can be left and collected between 9:30am and 5:30pm (or later by prior arrangement) 7 days a week.

Telephone 01433 651013 if you need further info.

I so nearly posted that question till I realised that he meant workmen would be about to witness theives - not that the design of the layby would hinder theives attempts.

Hmmmm....only if they're working until late at night and weekends.

If it keeps going on then a stakeout is the best solution I reckon.

Just a suggestion.....

Or take them out to Layby Pot and make them do the through trip, punishment enough for anyone :D

Yes - and nick everything from THEIR car while they are doing it!
