The Wessex Caving Club are running a "Try Caving with the Wessex" weekend.

Come down to the club hut in Priddy for a specially organised weekend to meet the club members and try out caving for the first time or get back into a sport you used partake in. We would like to show you why the Wessex is such a great club and why you should go caving. The weekend consists of caving trips on Saturday & Sunday, slide shows and presentations will be taking place throughout Saturday evening and you will be able to meet lots of cavers who will be able to answer your questions. Breakfast will be provided both mornings and a BBQ on Saturday night. To find out more about the club check out the website - http://www.wessex-cave-club.org/  The club has a very active membership who partake in a variety of outdoor sports all year round. The club organises local caving trips every 2nd Saturday of the month in Mendip and many away trips to other UK caving regions over the course of the year.


NOTE:There will be a small cost for this event, but it will cover the accommodation, lamp & helmet hire and all the food for the weekend individuals are not paying to be taken caving. All individuals must be fit and healthy (able to undertake an active sport) Participants should be aged 16 or over, under 18's need to accompanied by a responsible adult. An e-mail will be sent to participants in advance of the weekend to detail what they should bring. Only 15 places available for the weekend.

We have a mix of people new to caving and people looking to join a club coming along so message me with any questions you have and come along for a great weekend.

Great response from a variety of people for this event, we have 2 remaining places, if you can contact before Thursday then you should be able to come along.

We also have about 40 club members coming up the hut for the evening meal!

Our Try Caving weekend was a great success and the feedback has been excellent. We had 14 Try Cavers for the weekend with an additional 4 people just on Sunday. About half were existing cavers and the others had either done very little or were complete novices.

The Wessex Cave Club members were a great support, offering to lead trips underground, assisting with the cooking and generally creating a welcoming atmosphere (as usual). We had a total of about 50 people for dinner on the Saturday night and everyone was well fed judging by the amounts of leftovers.

We have some very keen prospective members following this weekend, and many have requested membership forms. Keep an eye out for another event if you missed this one.

Thanks again for a brilliant weekend.  Maxine and the Wessex members were very welcoming.  I had a great time down Manor Farm and Swildons and am looking forward to my next trip.
