I've just been told that the petrol station in Settle will close from 15th June (i.e. in just over a fortnight) for a period of 17 weeks. I believe this will be for refurbishment, along the lines of what was done at the Ingleton petrol station and shop (which is also run by the Co-op).

Cavers travelling long distances to & from the Dales probably need to take account of this and fill up elsewhere when the opportunity arises.

They made a good job of the Ingleton site, so we should have something to look forward to in Settle in the Autumn.

It re-opened yesterday.

Today they had loads of folk out in town, handing out vouchers for a free big pizza if you spend ?2, with a choice of two types.
I suspect this may continue over the weekend (broke student cavers please note!).

The petrol station area doesn't look a lot different from previously. The shop part is better than before (but not as big as the equivalent at Ingleton).

Anyway, the Settle petrol famine is now officially over. 

That must now be the most misleading headline ever on UK Caving .
