Survex help required

I'm working on a master survex file for all the caves SUSS has found in Crete over the last few years (+300, so it's taking me a while!). Unfortunately I don't have the .svx data for two caves, just the .3d for one and the .plt for another (found by the French).

Is there any way to *include a .3d or a .plt file? Or a convertion tool prehaps?

If you take the 3d file right click & "convert for hand plotting" or somesuch, it'll give a list of station co-ordinates from which you can reconstruct the data.

Survex doesn't use .plt files. If it's a "Compass" plot file then according to the Survex documentation <http://survex.com/docs/manual/compass.htm> you can include them. However, whatever it says there will be pitfalls along the way especially over station names and over fixed points.

It might worth asking Larry Fish, the guy who wrote Compass, over at <http://www.fountainware.com/compass/> whether he has a way of extracting station co-ordinates from plot files.

Hi Rob,

Olly sent me a little tool to do just this a while ago. I can't find it on the Survex website, or on my computer at work, so I probably only have it at home. It allows you to specify two .3d files and it creates a combined .3d from them. Let me know if you want a copy and I will look for it at home.

Yes yes, thank you please, when you get a chance. Sounds perfect...
