Simpson Pot - Great Aven

Last Saturday there was a (slightly short) rope dominating the bolts in Swinsto Great Aven. Does anyone know who left it, and whether it is intended that it be left there for very long?

I don't think so, I understan Langcliffe to know the place well enough that saying Slit Pot and Swinsto Great Aven to mean the same location would be an unlikely confusion.

Is that the one that's been there for years? There has certainly been one rigged the last couple of times I've been down.

The rope is on the standard Great Aven descent of Simpson, rather than the one going up into the Strike Series. I don't know how long it has been there. I think that it's about a year since I passed that way, and it wasn't there then.

I?ve been told it was rigged during eurospeleo a few years back. Last time I looked at it the maillons/Karabiners were quite rusted

Thank you for that - I must be mistaken in not remembering the rope being there last year. Sounds like it needs tidying up.

Great aven was not rigged as part of eurospeleo, a rope was already there:
