self isolating

With the wide spread advice about self isolation we were wondering where the best place to self isolate was in the caving world.  Down the dig - could get a lot done in 14 days.  The favourite pub - probably not very isolated.  The far end of Langcliffe?  Where?

At current length the entire BCA membership could get down Draenan and be at least a few metres apart....

Personally I think it's finally time this community comes together to become mole people

And if they all had a pencil and piece of paper and draw the bit they were in, maybe we could get a complete survey that was accessible to us all  ;).

The far end of Mossdale might be a good spot - but you'd probably have Simon Beck calling in to see if you were OK.

You'll miss out on all that lovely herd immunity. I can send some kids round to fix that for you.

Interestingly it's not impossible we had it in Dec. Bunch of us went down with weird 2 week virus with non-flu symptoms. One was hospitalised with breathing problems the cough got so bad. GP decided not to test as our kid had had it so long (?).

Whatever.

On Mendip Aveline's Hole and Lionel's Hole are by the side of the road.  You could do a drive by to throw supplies at the afflicted without stopping and so reducing the risk of plague contamination.

Will the cavers of Eyam be self-isolating? I seem to remember that tactic was used last time (albeit ~400 years ago),but with unfortunate effects

Unfortunate for the good people of Eyam, but very fortunate for the rest of the district that they did so.  If they had fled the village and carried the plague to the surrounding towns and villages...

Unfortunately that didn't entirely happen.

The hamlet of Curbar was also stricken.

It's still a moving thing to walk round Eyam and see the plague graves, especially the Riley Graves.

If you want isolation then any North Wales cave fits the bill, although I did get the shock of my life once when on a solo trip into Hesp Alyn I bumped into 3 other cavers,

A more important question is which caving hut can throw the best isolation party, and where can I sign up?

A serous answer to this question might be: one of the more accessible parts of OFD. Dry. Water nearby. Not too draughty. If you had a deal with Ocado, you could persuade them to leave your shopping in Gnome Passage.

Very sadly for the people of Eyam recent mathematical modelling on the way plague spreads through communities suggests that there would have been fewer deaths had the village not quarantined itself. Although of course the villagers weren't to know that and mathematical modelling can be wrong! (although has proved very accurate for the likes of foot and mouth...)

Plus it hadn't been invented then...

Apparently Curbar was 33 years before Eyam, so maybe they had learned something from them

Speletorn: Sand Caverns in GG? People could lower supplies down the main chamber.

Yeah, I know a whole bunch of folk who'd happily walk up to GG with big rucksacks full of food on their backs ? or maybe even hire a chopper ? and keep me going while I lurk around in Sand Caverns.
