Not For the Faint-Humoured

I had an idea of making a book with 50 pointless trips in it, trips where there is a fair bit of effort for an entirely pointless outcome. Some ideas are:

1) A Wade's Entrance - OBJ exchange in GG

2) Yordas Big 20: Every possible exchange in Yordas, done in a day, no leaving rigging in place (as there are 5 entrances to Yordas and we're cointing A to B as a different trip to B to A).

3) Eldon Hole exchange of the North, South, East and West entrance routes (I actually did this once on a Friday night)

4) Darren Cilau, going through the entrance series and then turning round and going out agian

5) Pierre Saint Martin not as a pullthrough, going back out up the pitches.

Can anyone think of any others?

Yep done that, it's fairly pointless. Rewarded only with bruised elbows and a nagging feeling in your morale fibres that actually caving is probably quite shit.

I can imagine a trip to Swinstos great aven and then having to climb all the way back out of Swinsto would be pretty crap.

Aggy Grand Circle, but not as a circle, going almost to the point where it joins up again then turning round and going out the way you came in.

The ultimate pointless trip?

Sandy Hole on Portland. I don't think anyone's ever got to the end. After 4 hours of crawling you just give up and turn round.

Disappointment Pot, turning round immediately after doing the duck.

In Small Mammal, out Stile, without doing the second pitch.
(I tried this a couple of years ago...it took for ever to get up the sloping bedding plane, then when I finally made it, I found the entrance climb covered in slugs, so I went straight back down).

Brunscar Cave....walk until cold and wet, crawl until colder and wetter, return.

Goatchurch cavern. I always find this a really pointless trip to go down, crawl through the drain pipe and back again. We only do it to initiate newbies!

Seconded on Bruntscar, noting that you have to pay an access fee for the privilege.

A contender for the most difficult caving trip was suggested on this forum as the end of Daren Cilau to the entrance and back - surely worthy of inclusion here.

Another is descending the "Hole of Infinite Wisdom" located in Cascade Chamber in Afton Red Rift.

How about Garn y Bica?
Long walk to the top of the moor followed by a decent to the bottom where you think, "I this it?" Then prusik straight back up again.

I once did a "Grand Tour of Rod's Pot" covering every passage in the cave, totally pointless and surprisingly hard work!

We also did a similar thing in Swildon's, covering every passage in the Upper Series (not the whole cave  )
Again, totally pointless and pretty hard work for an evening...

I'm sure there are plenty of other smaller caves where a similar "Grand Tour" trip might make it to the list (y)

The book already exists. It's called "Mendip Underground".

The Magic Roundabout in Lancaster Hole is pretty useless. It finishes 20 metres vertically and 20 metres horizontally from the starting point, having ascended 45 metres of one set of pitches, descended 45 metres of another set of pitches, and got one very wet in the process. It's great fun, though.

In the same vein as some of these suggestions, me and a friend once did JH to Peak, went up Victoria Aven and then back out the same way.

That's fairly pointless and includes Colostomy twice.

Any of the caves associated with a pot of the same name - without going down the pot - e.g. Jingling (particularly Jingling!), Rowten, Juniper.

Cross Joints Swallet without dropping the pitch into Hyperspace

Razor Entrance to Borrins Moor whilst carrying all the gear to go to the bottom of Alum

(Guilty of most of these )
