The Garden Dig

There are probably very few of us who have the privilege to go caving during the current lockdown.

This has been pending for a while, work commitments, house renovations got in the way.

Now I have the opportunity to spend a little time in the cave in the garden, (found when building the extension)

With a bit of luck there may be a crap video showing the cave thus far below

Looks fascinating - but not one for the self-isolating digger.  How many do you need to dig it?

It looks like it would be possible but tiring to dig alone, bringing the dig tray out each time. About 5 - 10 mins per trip with the tray? In the vid you took under 4 mins, but that was while trying to film at the same time.

It's a pity for you you don't have a nice bit of walking passage in there to play in.

I am still jealous though, I live on sandstone here, though there are underground quarries within walking distance of here, but not yet, because they are more dangerous than most caves!

How far will it blow a carrier bag? I managed about six metres up in the air once at a certain dig not too far away.

I was as I discovered my post in 2009 under the topic Fan question. Put it down to age!

Me and Domee found a draught two years ago that was capable of blowing vegetation about from 8 metres distance. It was in midsummer and the draught was very cold indeed. It never stops blowing. Sadly the 'cave' it's in is a total death-trap, but with a lot of engineering I reckon it could be dug out - though it would take some brave cavers to install it. But it's as loud as this one here. All the boulders in the roof are hanging death the size of fridges.

Apparently Buster and Alan Medhurst checked it out in the 80s and also declared it a total death-trap - so I'm in good company
