I don't know. I'm dealing with snippets, 3rd party information. I was told it was a very shallow quarry, its halfway up a hill, above the Dapstone house row but below the Monkto Farlegh complex. It could be its simply filled with water, it might have been prone to flooding like Park Lane was.

Darkplaces - I have checked in the CDG Newsletter (index of dives) database for you - and I can confirm that there is no listing of any dive there by CDG members. Unless it's known by any other name . . . ?

I haven't looked at the links above but if you PM me to let me know in which part of the world this site is (remembering that I'm a Dales & Derbyshire caver, so it's probably off my radar) I may well be able to ask the right people the necessary questions to help you.

Cheers Jon, however we have investigated and found this is just two squared tanks with water in. Using BUBBLE the (SOV) we 'dived' the tank to see what it was full of, which was water.

Very enterprising!

I see you cut out the bit at the end, with the voice that shouted

"Oi you, what are you doing in my swimming pool/well/cess-pit!"

I have just looked at www.old-maps.co.uk for Monkton Farleigh, and on the 1:10560 map of 1891 I can see up to three possible entrances, two of which are linear features which might well be slope shafts. This looks like an interesting site. If the thread continues, maybe it should be moved to another section.

Later maps which you can't enlarge on old-maps, suggest the main entrance was the most southerly one closest to the road. It still shows on the 1926 map along with numerous shafts, and the word 'tunnels'. An exercise to overlay this information onto a modern map might help tremendously in identifying things.

Yes this information did indeed lead us to beleave an adit was in the Dapstone cottages back garden (a row of 4 mine worker style cottages), however approaching the owners asking for permission to find/document etc every one of them it feels had been primed to re-direct to the land owner, Sir Charles Hobhouse. Infact on that very night me and known walked up his drive twice to ask permission but he wasn't in.

Like Longsplatt (Need to speak to Bob!) Dapstone is one of the few totally undocumented quarrys in the area.
