Don't know about Mendip, but both Caving Supplies in Buxton and Bernies in Ingleton usually have carbide for sale.

Didn't all caving shops stop selling carbide donkey's years ago?

I have a lifetime supply but it is easy to buy on EBay or Amazon priced from about ?10 to ?25 per kilo.

I have a collection of carbide lights and enjoy using them regularly.

Aha - Bernies do sell it and at a good price but collection only so EBay is your best bet.

I suspect that the OP's question has been answered now,  I can see an argument brewing and one that will not end with everyone hugging and agreeing. 

So I'd say put the keyboard, down, step away from the keyboard.
