Rain in Castleton

Anybody know how much rain there has been in Castleton over the last week or so? Planning on diving in Speedwell on Saturday and wondering if I should bother sorting my kit or not!

Have you seen the Hollowford Centre's weather station? Excellent resource. I sometimes have to open it in old Internet Explorer instead of Edge to view the full functionality.

Water levels in Peak were surprisingly low on Thursday and Saturday last week. Not really rained much since (less than 10mm total since Saturday midday).

I tend to use river level monitoring stations to judge conditions, rather than rainfall which can be very misleading on it's own. Whilst not Castleton, i find this is the best source as it's still quite local and an almost entirely limestone catchment:

https://www.gaugemap.co.uk/ is also a good resource. They have groundwater level data too.  Derbyshire missed most of the extreme rainfall which hit the East Midlands (c. 150 mm rain in south Notts last week), so water levels are relatively low. Thundery rain likely tonight though.

I use the Bamford one for castleton levels. It's low at the moment. Usually wouldn't take Freshers in P8 when it goes over 1.28m

They weren't on Saturday Rob - there was water flowing into the short bypass and waterfalls in Block Hall. The mucky ducks were low but from Buxton Water everything was pretty deep Peak side too

The water levels were pretty high in Rowter on Saturday too.

Rostam, what sort of colour as the water coming down the Bung and in the streamway below? I'll be diving at the upstream end of it - am I going to see anything?

Hi Ben,
Ann & I were doing a couple of jobs in the Speedwell and Bung streamways yesterday, and the water was quite high and noticably brown. Mostly (and quite spectacularly) coming out of Whirlpool Passage, pulsing too.
If that's any help!

Well don't bank on having Yucatan-style clarity in the Dales instead; the vis is garbage at the moment!
