Rock Fall at Porth yr Ogof

From Dave Thomas, Call of the Wild:

Please be aware that there has been significant movement of the block on the access route on the far side of the river, this has obviously been caused by the recent snowfall where the weight of the snow has dislodged the tree that was next to the block (which is now laying in the river) causing the block to slide sideways and in the process close the narrow access slot previously used by many.
Currently the rock feels pretty solid but we were not prepared to risk going below it. There is also a lot of rockfall just to the left of this area again being caused by tree fall."

After significant rock and tree falls at the main entrance to Porth yr Ogof cave systems, the National Park Authority has taken the decision to close the main entrance, until they can get a professional inspection done of the cliff faces, which they are confident that they can complete this early next week.

Until they are confident of the safety of the entrance, this will be closed to all, and we would ask that if you are planning on using this entrance to the cave in the coming days, that you make alternative arrangements.  Once the inspection has been completed, there will be an update as to its status.

Hi
Any more info on this? Has the inspection been done? and the route re-opened? Does this affect the Main entrance or the Tradesmen's entrance?

Further to my earlier message, the National Park Authority has now reported that:

"The cliff face inspection has shown no noticeable extra movement in the rocks above the path into the cave, and we are now comfortable that the recent weather has not changed the dynamics of the cliff face.  We have however, identified a tree at the base of the climb down, just above the style, that has shed a number of large limbs, some of which have caught in the canopy of the tree.  We feel that this causes a risk to anyone walking below.  We have planned for our wardens to make safe this tree on Tuesday 9th January, and until then we will keep the pathway closed.
"As long as the planned works is successful, we hope to reopen the cave entrance on Wednesday 10th January.
"I would thank you for your patience and understanding as we seek to ensure the safety of users of the cave."
