Hi! Slinter Wood Caves in the Via Gelia? Described in Ford's book as having a collapsed floor revealing a 100ft hole! I once passed a gated cave entrance, in the woods on the slopes leading up to Middleton. Does anyone know anything about them or the 100ft hole? I live pretty close so it seems a good idea to have a shifty. Cheers. :?

I've been intreagued by that gem from the Guide book.
Probably the best bet would be to look up the reference in the guide book, which may give more info. I've usually assumed it was a mine related hole, rather than a cave feature...

You should be able to get a copy from the Mining Museum in Matlock Bath
Do let us know what you find out...
