The season of well-dressings, wakes weeks (Carnivals not mourning) , and Garland Days is upon us.
Well Dressing dates are here: - Well Dressing 2008
generally the wakes week coincides with the well-dressing dates.
Castleton Garland Day is always on May 29th - Oak Apple Day - except when this falls on Sunday and then it's on the day before - Saturday May 28th ( allegedly because its roots are pagan ).
This year it falls on a Thursday and the procession will commence from the Bull's Head at 6-30pm. The road will be closed from approx 6pm and the procession will reach the last pub, The George at roughly 7-45pm before entering the churchyard. Garland's Pot in Giant's was discovered on May 29th - hence the name .
Here's the procession about to pass the TSG's Chapel.
