SUSS have Lost John's & Boxhead Pot booked soonish and I was wondering if anyone could point me to a good description (and/or decent survey) of the high-level route between the two - I don't fancy the stream route :hidesofa: and the high-level route sounds quite pleasant - but getting lost doesn't

Cheers all

The high level route is an interesting one, some nice formations too.. Unfortunately not totally straightforward, when I did it we had to rely on someone telling us the route at the top of the rope climb (thankfully they described it well enough to us!!) Don't know of any descriptions of it anywhere though and I've never come across a survey of Lost Johns, would be interesting to see the survey though :)

Cheers for those guys - had tried Google text search but not image search before - nice one!

The Boxhead and LJ topos both stop short of the fiddly bits, and the write-ups of Dunc's trip both seem to be "it was rather complicated for a bit (with a few route-notes), then we met the others and then it got even more complicated (with no route-notes)".

Mind you, people have been through before so it must be findable - we'll just have to try. At least no-one will be pulling through so turning back's an option.....

Going on some hazy memory here so I can't guarantee any accuracy and might have the middle section mixed up.. :?
From Lost Johns, heading upstream climb up boulders around Lyle Cavern and find crappy rope climb and a pitch going up. At the top was a crawl over a pool, which enlarges (nice formation) and reaches junction with bigger passage, headed left and somewhere along there is the rope climb down.

Following passage to where it bends sharp right take passage on left (which is on the corner), could then be the low blasted rock arch to a crawl in a pool exiting that on the right. There is also a faffy climb to get up too.

After that it was following passage past some holes in the floor, I think it was more or less straightforward from there, it did drop to a crawl which was followed to where it pops out on a ledge (marked Kendal Extensions on that Boxhead rigging topo).

 HTH, Dunc

Didn't do it after all that - had some relative beginners with us and a rather small team so 'just' did LJ's & had a wistful look at the fixed rope up - next time.....

For info, a very careful look at NC3 does give a description of the route through into Lost Pot Avens, which is the bottom of Boxhead, so actually there was a description of sorts around

Cheers for the advice anyway :D

Its an awesome trip - perhaps the best exchange trip in Yorkshire so make sure you get back in there soon
