I am over the Coniston area in the near future and was thinking about a trip into the Coniston Copper Mines.

Any information any has would be useful. Idealy looking for a trip suitabele for bothn SRT and non SRT people. Cany anyone provide any pointers?

Also what is the access situation?

Years ago I went in the Hospital Level (waist deep in water) as far as the Californian Bunch... it was open access and all walking on the level. The route down from Levers Water via the Funnel is what you are looking for vertically... however, the route is tricky. You might want to contact someone at Cumbria Amenity Trust Mining History Society for the current situation and a description of the route. Contact their secretary at: 01229-472296.

Hospital level is very nice but not that big

The trip down from Levers Water is clear and do-able but you will need a lot of rope and is'nt suitable for SRT novices really. Can be rigged for pull through but it is possible to wrong slot in places in which case you are buggered if you pull through. It is a very pretty trip though. Would'nt attempt it without a good map and or guide.
