Swapping a Duo

I've just bought a new helmet and I want to swap my Petzl Duo from the old one to the new.
The Petzl guys at HE told me that the only ways to maintain the waterproof integrity are
a) to cut the light off the old helmet then mount it on the new one by running the cable around the outside
or
b) to cut the cable, thread it all through holes drilled in the new helmet and seal the new join in the cable.

They seemed to think that actually removing the cable from either the lamp or the battery box would be too tricky and impossible to put back waterproof.

Any suggestions?

From personal experienceI can confirm that if you do follow option 'b' and drill holes for the cable, it will undoubtedly compromise the waterproof integrity of the helmet.

When I bought my new Duo I fixed it to my helmet and ran the cable around the outside (option a). It has never caused any problems. From memory, I think it is fixed down at about three places around the side of the helmet using little clips provided with the lamp. What little slack there was in the cable is in a very small loop right next to the lamp unit where it won't snag on anything.

Waterproofness (is that a word?) of the helmet is not an issue - The Elios is a vented helmet. It's retaining the waterproof integrity of the lamp and battery box that's the issue

Problem is, this Duo came factory fitted to a Petzl hemet. To do option a) I'd have to cut it out of the existing helmet rendering it useless as a spare / digging / rescue helmet.

Oh, I see your problem now. It seems I made a wise choice then, not to buy the lamp/helmet combo.

I would definitely leave the DUO well alone and cut the old helmet. You could make quite a neat cut if you wanted to keep it (but why?).
