I read this sort of thing and it is a very good job I am not the landowner. I would dynamite a good 100m length of each entrance, just to stop this playgroup toy-grabbing nonsense. Because that's what it is.

Why would you tell the landowner about a dig? It is like approaching my mother and saying "Is it ok, if we just take the brake pipes off your car for this evening and put them back on tomorrow?" Of course she will get very very very upset. "Can we have access to the system" is enough. I wonder if the people perpetrating this kind of activity are deliberately causing a massive stir, in order to favour their own situation.

I would have loved to (and still would like to - one day) visit Milwr. I read the Grosvenor Caving Club shenanigans with similar vitriol. Utter utter idiocy and virtually nothing to do with caving, apart from the nonsense relates to a cave.

The Milwr is, access wise at least, easy enough. Don't bother with the GCC, you'll get nowhere. Give me a prod and I'll point you in the right direction.

You may now resume your regularly scheduled Draenen thread.

If more people put effort into getting stuff printed and less writing lengthy pieces on the forum editors of journals would be really happy people. An Editor ;)

Love a lengthy forum post of quality but recently there have been superb print media caving releases.

I find editors to be righteous bores (Sweeping generalisation, not all are), and I suspect others finding the same are the reason you have less submissions, with the internet ruling the roost now.

Well I suppose I do both. I have just written up 1,000 words for the club magazine and have stuff in most of them over the last few years. Magazines are collected and swapped  to be used as references and kept in club libraries. The forum is more along the lines of chat ( and argue ) in the pub. Forums also have the ability to host more images if only people bothered. There is room for both and I cant see one detracts from the other. As for Facebook ------
In any case where exactly in the system is this new entrance supposed to be? Something like a sketch survey would be most helpful. A link to a website or what ever have you.

Hmm! I find the internet to be something of a shouting match although use it all the time. In my professional life I had to advise patients they needed to sieve out the crap when researching ailments, a point well made on the Today programme this morning. Print still has permanence. I am sure Chris Howes would find the term righteous bore a sweeping generalisation :) Righteous bore could also be translated as 'people who  like to get it right'.

Another pool of righteous bores are those who are convinced they know it all, and have no issue with telling everyone at every available opportunity. Woe betide anyone who challenges them.

Secret is bad. Secret is bad for caving and bad for cavers. We do enough skulking in the dark without that kind of shenanigans.

Secret is not open. Known to the select few is not open. Equally accessible to any responsible caver is the only acceptable access. Sometimes this will mean no access, but this is a price worth paying.

Given that's aimed at me, let's get this crystal clear, so even you can't misunderstand.

I don't know it all. I've never suggested I do. Now, if you would like to keep it on topic and not be a righteous bore by dragging this off topic. You want to take pot shots at me, take it to my inbox, m'kay?

Righteous bore could also be translated as 'people who  like to get it right'.
I like to be correct. I don't submit items (decidedly non-caving) unless they are correct to the best of my knowledge and ability. It was more aimed at the general attitude of Editors (again, sweeping generalisation, not universal) I've observed.
