Update after Huge Flood

Following a huge flood in Nidderadale I had a brief look around and noted:-

  • Thrope pot blocked by one fallen boulder
  • New Goyden SRT main entrance open and ok
  • Frog pot entrance open and ok
  • Guscott Pot - flood took away our digging buckets left high up on the bank. The cave has taken a lot of flood water but it did not take away the wire mesh etc that was left over the entrance. Interesting now that the flood has gone down and Goyden is taking all the water Guscott is still too wet to descend. This is due to the streams that were still flooding down the hillside behind Limley Farm into the river bed and along to Guscott pot.
  • Limley pot was fine apart from the floods are starting to undermine the cemented wall of boulders that form the entrance
  • Church was was surrounded by a small lake. The stream that joins the river bed about 20m down valley of Church pot has for quite some time now been steady filling a large crater there where a small amount of water fed through to Chapel chamber between Gaskills passage and the Turf pitch. Now that the stream has completely filled what was the crater some of the stream has started to flow back towards Church pot. This means Church is now a wet route until this lake goes. The latest flood has also left a massive pile of rocks close to church pot.
  • Lesser Stream pot through to Goyden via the Eternal Optimist was clear. The dam that had been built to prevent further incursions of flood water and debris from what was a new entrance close to Goyden pot is doing its job well. No debris has managed to get into the Eternal Optmist and the passage is almost all clean washed.
Anyone doing trips into the system when the flood has gone - if you notice any changes please tell us all updates on this thread, thanks.

Thrope pot now clear and open again.
Able to get down Guscott Pot and all was clear. The stream coming from the northern passage was flowing stronger than seen before and disappeared into the choke without backing up.
