WARNING - OFD - PENDULUM PASSAGE

Long Drop

Active member
Yesterday our party entered Pendulum Passage up the climb from the streamway, between the nave and top waterfall.  From here we followed Pendulum Passage 'downstream' towards the well known helictites.  An easy section of passage is followed by an upwards climb of 6m (marked c6 on the survey) up a rift to an eye-hole.  Beyond this a chamber and careful move under two delicately bridged boulders brings you to the top of the next climb; a downwards climb marked 'c4' on the survey.  There is an old rope sling round calcite on the floor here.

The first member of our party went over the lip of the climb and put his foot on something, after which the whole planet started falling apart.  Some very major boulders came out, from beneath where we were standing at the top of the climb, and went crashing down below.  Our climber returned safely to the top, after which another unprovoked cascade of boulders started underneath....  We ran away, back the way we'd come.

ANYONE APPROACHING THIS CLIMB SHOULD PLEASE PROCEED WITH EXTREME CAUTION!

Happy New Year to all.
