The death of Nigel Taylor was sadly announced this morning. The Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) has lost a great champion and the ‘ecosystem of people’ in the area is now missing a key connection. The AONB Partnership, staff in the team and all the volunteers who help the hills will sadly miss him.

There's a commemorative plaque to him in Wookey Hole Caves.

Sad news indeed. I have known Nigel for something like 40 years, as a fellow caver in the BEC and his invovement with cave rescue. He was also indirectly responsible for some major discoveries on Mendip of course.

In the early days Nigel's Nife cell leaked on to the crutch piece of his wet suit then dried. Reactivated when worn in the wet Nigel had nasty burns on his delicate area. He said that he was lucky not to have skin grafts. I can only assume that in time he recovered to normality.
