Been some debate amongst the climbers, think the signs been there a week or more, on whether the quarry could be bought separately from the pasture and if any rich benefactor could buy it and donate to the BMC (just a pipe dream).

Unless I'm being fooled by some quaint typeface, has that sign been hand stenciled??

Turns out it was quartz in the quarry all the time. Who would have thunk it? Hilarious. I wonder if it could be turned into a caravan park? Though the word 'capacity' doesn't bode well, though if the landowner is who I think it is, that word is probably used quite a lot in their line of business. And we must hope that the Masson Hill SSSI regs are mentioned at some point before the sale if 'capacity' is being considered as a factor - they're not mentioned on the website, that's for sure. Also seems the timber and mineral rights are up for sale...

The former limestone and quartz quarry offers the opportunity for a range of alternative future uses, subject to necessary planning consents. The vendor has had the quarry surveyed to have a capacity of over 1,000,000 m3. In addition is a derelict building that historically was used in conjunction with quarry operations.

If they are interested in the cubic capacity of the quarry, I hope the BMC's legal team may be able help campaign, to remind the SSSI status, against that as it's a popular climbing venue.

The quarry and the land for sale isn't within the Masson Hill SSSI, but it does fall within the impact assessment zone so Natural England do have to be consulted as part of the planning process.

Hi, do you know anything about parking restrictions being put in place? On the DCA website there's new warnings about this, do you know if the query is now out of bounds?
Access to the quarry is neither allowed or denied. DCA have not been able to establish contact with the current owner despite several attempts by us over the last few years. People have been going to the quarry and mine without any problems. Go and report back if you have any issues. Just watch out not to park by the metal passing place signs, they are legit.

Hi Pete, thanks for your message. I've seen on the DCA website new information about parking not being allowed in the layby which we use on Salters Lane. I'm guessing it's since the land was auctioned off recently. We saw the for sale signs back in the Summer when it being sold off in an auction.

We thought we had better update the listing a couple of days ago after so many people messaged us to say the signs had appeared, but we have no real info on why they went up or who was responsible. We're looking into it though and will update everyone if we get anywhere.

Thanks Pete, we are hoping to get over there sometime this week. If we do I'll let you know if anything has changed x

Just got a report of someone's wing mirrors being smashed up there today and separately an angry blond lady shouting at people apparently parked out of the way of the turn in and passing places. Things are deteriorating quickly up here so take care. Any problems when you park there, like damage or abuse, call the police and report it.

Just been up to check the sinage, what was parking places has now been turned into passing places, on both sides of the road! There is absolutely no where to park now. We're looking at a walk in from Matlock Bath station car park, it looks as if the track running past Devonshire cavern might take us there, we left the ordinance survey athome 🤦‍♀️ that's terrible to hear about the wing mirrors, I can imagine it's upset a lot of people though 😡
