    Best Ever Colour Song

Green & Yeller - Seasick Steve's version, beats Pete Seeger's "Dear Henry" version hands down!

    Peak cavernTrenches, mud collapse

During the firrst two decades of this century, the regular passage of cavers through Colostomy Crawl and Liams Way definitely increased the flow of water through these passages. I remember one occasion travelling from the Trenches towards Egnaro Aven and being bombarded by significant waves...

Ah yes - the old ovine "commando" roll - it's a great sight to see!

Environment Agency Water Depth Logger in Castleton

This is very useful! As well as showing the current water level, it also indicates the highest level recorded level, plus what the top of the "normal" range would be - additionally, it shows a graph of the previous couple of days. This is all very easy for a non-scientific person (e.g. me) to...

Environment Agency Water Depth Logger in Castleton

When Mr Fireguard and I were doing some work for Speedwell down in the Bottomless Pit between pulses we worked out that, on that day, the pulse occurred at approximately 30 minute intervals (IIRC!), so it might be possible, but, there again, a 15 minute sample could miss the pulse altogether...

    No escape from Titan!

Sorry to hear this. Keeping the dams operational was always seen as important because the route through from Leviathan to Stemple Highway is a single-point of failure. The original introduction of the pipework (and subsequently R2D2, when the Boulder Piles started moving) was to keep the route...

    No escape from Titan!

Like CF, I've never met the worms in any of my trips through there, although I have heard blood-curdling stories about them. I always assumed it was a Yorkshire "bogey man" sort of thing, a bit like the fate which apparently awaits those who venture out onto Rombald's Moor without headgear?

BCA statement on peer to peer training

From personal experience, I know that a coroner can and will ask anybody he thinks may be involved to demonstrate their thoughts, or otherwise explain their actions. It doesn't necessarily have to be a committee member.

    Cave Rescue Procedures (continued)

Sorry - if you transport yourself back to the very early 70s, maybe even earlier, say when Dusty and Gogs were temporarily "managing" the Hill Inn, there was a "thing" (boggling) whereby various vehicles were driven well off road. The pub in those days had plenty of photographic evidence of some...

    Cave Rescue Procedures (continued)

Ah, boggling - those were the days! Never mind driving, can you boggle? (Tatham Wife's a bit of a tall order, mind!)

Return to Aquamole - The Film

Thanks, Keith, for a great film. Watched it last night and it took me back to another time, and a great era for cave discovery. Your film, and Harry's book which I've just finished, have brought back many happy memories.

Caroline Lucas's Bill to extend CROW access - my attempt to lobby her

Well, they could easily have pointed out that the Glasgow-Edinburgh belt is heavily populated, and used that as an excuse - fortunately for Scotland they didn't.

Caroline Lucas's Bill to extend CROW access - my attempt to lobby her

Having recently moved to Scotland, I'm very impressed with their Land Reform Act, which gives general access to almost all open land here, including caves, and I did wonder, considering the shenanigans from the UK government regarding GRR and threatened over the bottles business, how on earth...
