Resin anchor countersinking (split from Blacknor Hole bolts)

I don't think any manufacturers of resin anchors recommend countersinking them. It was a measure introduced by cavers to reduce the movement of loose anchors. I can't see why a twisted leg would make any difference to the movement of a loose anchor.

    WTF - (Women's Technical Forum)

At last - just what women have been waiting for. Gear manufacturers showing us how much they are in tune with how women think about gear. https://www.expe.fr/uk/miraval-35-femme.html

    Elon Musk - April 1st.

A date has been set for a hearing and it's April 1st. By then it will be Vernon Unsworth MBE vs Elon Musk, April fool. Obviously only an opinion not a statement of fact  https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/dec/27/elon-musk-pedo-diver-vernon-unsworth-defamation-lawsuit-dismiss

    Concrete screws.

Sorry for the delay in getting this report published but it's finally on that well known mine of caving information the wonderful CNCC website. https://cncc.org.uk/fixed-aids/articles.php

Found Peli case in Lost Johns.

I found a small yellow Peli case on a ledge below Battleaxe Traverse, almost certainly dropped from the traverse. It looks as though it had been there for quite some time. The contents would have been valuable at the time it was dropped but are probably worthless now. If it's yours and you want...

    Ethical shopping

New thread because this was off topic on the Chinese gear thread. My perspective is that Lidl and Aldi in recent years have represented the worst in low price, poor service, exploitative supermarkets. The service is bad and I have been told that they are bad employers. They were at the bottom...

Caving Politics vs Normal Politics (If this upsets you, please do not read it)?

Why has it been locked? Three people started their usual bickering but one person got blamed then we all got punished and we all have to lose an interesting poll and thread? I've just had another look at it and it was a comment by Droid that took it off on a tangent and made it go pear shaped...

    Tatham Wife Hole rigging

With the assistance of two Badgers (those Badgers seem to be everywhere at the moment) six anchors were removed and five new ones installed in Taham Wife Hole. Mark Sims and Toby Buxton had enjoyed Marble Sink the day before but were full of energy. Some of the anchors removed were very loose...

    Access to crags/caves

When is a cave a crag? Gaping Gill is an established climbing route and climbing is allowed under CRoW. I can see no difference between aid climbing and doing it on SRT. So if Gaping Gill is recognised as climbing and allowed then surely all caves are...

    Bull Pot Rigging

Last week I removed several loose anchors and placed two new ones on the entrance pitch of Bull Pot. This provides a beautifully simple rigging using a 15m rope and one carabiner. It can be approached safely and there is a ledge which makes it a very easy take-off.

    Stainless maillons

I use stainless maillons quite a lot. I also use carbon steel maillons because I have a big stock of them. If I'm going to leave a cave rigged for more than a day I now use stainless maillons. Stainless maillons cost about three times as much but they are more economical. I have thrown away...

Bolts or anchors? (Split from "Loose resin anchors" topic)

A stupid question is one that isn't asked. We don't use bolts, we only use anchors. The whole point of the anchor scheme is to avoid the use of bolts.

CNCC resin anchor scheme (split from "Car Pot anchors" topic)

Car Pot used to be a popular cave and it's surprising that cavers have not done anything about the anchors. They are your anchors and you should maintain the anchors in caves in the same way that you maintain any other item of your caving equipment. What are you doing to maintain your anchors...
