A couple from Alum on Sunday. Taken on my phone as I'd left my camera on the surface. Was still there when we got out!

Yes I know its a few hours early for the week but never mind.

400,000 years ago was the start of the Hoxnian Interglacial. Britain was as warm then as it is now. Water was finding its way below the water table in phreatic tubes. The water levels dropped, Ice ages came and went. The once flooded section of the cave became dry as it went in transition from phreatic to vadose. The early sediments dried and cracked. In time calcite flowed into the cracks creating mini calcite canyons. With the chamber beyond they are infinitely fragile. The pink pillar at the far end a great rarity and you cant get anywhere near it without spoiling the pristine nature of the place. I chanced upon this place some years ago. Only three people including me have ever been there. Recently I went back to get the photos I never took before. You may say that its wrong to keep such a thing a secret. Well thats the way its going to be. Its not an easy place to get to. Its not on any survey. So sorry no point asking me.

To sum up
I try to make my photography differant. Anything bland or formulaic ( in my view ) is left out. I also try to do minimal editing as many images we see on social media are horribly " overcooked ". Yup I do like to be controversial as well ( the opposite to bland ). Any response here is welcome in that respect. Here is a little story.
My son is a photographer. At the seaside he spent ages getting a view of seawater pouring between posts just off shore. It looked a great shot. I said try Google Image when you get home. Yup. Dozens of others had thought the same thing. - Formulaic.
Yes Captain you are probably right. ( you missed that bit ). Fulk has a point too. Why bother ? I just love cave photography done simply. No point at all if its not shared whatever the context.
Three more " differant " views will appear next week.

I have to ask. Maybe this requires a new thread. what makes this formation so special ? Is it a different type to a usual cave formation ? Does it form differently?

Apologies I mainly only explore mines.

Hi TOR, I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I am intrigued about your comments regarding your son's picture above.

So he got what you acknowledge is a great shot, but then discovered that several other people had thought on similar lines; does that make it formulaic? Sure, had he gone out to ape other folks' pictures, then you could say so – but I infer from what you wrote that he had the idea . . . which happened to be similar to that of some other people.

Er umm I think thats what I meant. We wont waste space here discussing semantics. Its just that I like to take photos differently from the norm if they turn out crap is anyones opinion.
