    Padlock issues, Devonshire.

I was in Devonshire this evening. Someone has tampered with the combination padlock so, despite entering the correct code, the hasp wouldn’t release fully.

    which carabiners for anchors

My understanding of the accident is that the participant undid the krab, panicked, tried to re-attach himself and was unable to operate the krab. I didn't think that the krab actually failed.

    which carabiners for anchors

For many years I have used Clog, then DMM, Twistlock krabs without any issues at all. They are also tied in with a barrel knot or a homemade inner tube securing strap so they stay in their correct orientation. Wouldn’t dream of using a snap gate, in fact I don’t have any snap gates in my caving...

    Peak District Rigging Guide. CCPC

I don't know if this is the correct place to report, so just some observations. On a trip down Devonshire last night I found that there are 5 resin anchors on Hell's Well pitch, as there is one on the left wall as you enter the passage, which makes sense as a traverse line there is useful...

    Devonshire cavern- does it flood?

No! The most hazardous part is the potential for slipping on the autumn leaf fall on the way back down the access paths. It gets 'damp', as in a few trickles from the roof and the odd minor flow down the main passage. There isn't any stream in the system.

    Tackle for Devonshire Cavern

Go in via the upper entrance if you know the padlock code, enter down the slope, turn first right up some old steps and it is on the right wall. If you drop the shaft you can exit from the bottom. Or, go in the lower entrance (was secure as of 8.30 pm last night ), follow the main, obvious...

F.S. Petzl Duo, old style with cable and remote C cell battery pack and single LED conversion.

? No idea what it's worth, just plucked a price out of the air. What is it worth? I don't want to just throw it away, seems a waste.

F.S. Petzl Duo, old style with cable and remote C cell battery pack and single LED conversion.

As per the title, the one with the long cable and black fabric bag containing a pack of 4 'C' Cells and an LED in the main bulb position. The headband elastic is a bit saggy. £30 including postage (but I will post without batteries).

    Not cave gates!

Devonshire, Matlock Bath, has/had a combination lock fitted, was trashed, and another one fitted and, last time I was there had either been picked or left open. To be successful I think they need to be fairly robust. I've had one of these on my kayak securing cable for a while, and on my garden...

I was down Devonshire on Friday evening and found the padlock on the top entrance had been forced open and was so damaged it wouldn't relock.

    Mouldridge Mine

Am I correct in thinking that, with Mouldridge being on CROW land, there is no need to call the farmer first or is that still done as a courtesy? Also, I presume that visitors park on the wide grass verge across the road from the gate (right hand, small gate) taking care not to block access?

    Re-starting scout caving.

Has anyone started taking scout groups caving since the easing of restrictions? If so, any issues, examples of good practice. Advice that I have received from HQ reads that you can, but do you have to, and, if you do and it goes pear shaped we will hang you out to dry. No wish to be...

    Cave in Biggin Dale

Out walking today I visited a cave in the lower part of Biggin Dale, on the true left bank of the dale. It's marked on the OS map but I can't find any reference to it in any of my editions of COPD. There was a definite sound of water dripping from deep within. Anyone have any information please?
