    SRT Harnesses for Kids...

Update round 2... Today, I fitted my 6-year old son weighing in at a whopping 45 pounds in the MTDE Club harness. The leg loops had no issue cinching down as tight as we'd want. The waist closes down too, although there's a little slack in the front where the D-ring is. My guess is his waist...

    Carabiners - Uses & Preferences...

Update - Went with Petzl Omni screw-lock for the D-rings. DMM Perfecto tri-lock for the Bobbin-to-D-ring, and a regular snap-gate for the breaking krab. And after scouring the web and a little sweet talking on the phone, I finally found some NOS Grivel oval twin-gates for our cows tails. (A.K.A...

    Good smoke for testing drafts?

Not my style, but I'm sure it would get the job done. (y)

    Good smoke for testing drafts?

Are cigars and The Macallan 12-year not an option...? I can't think of a finer way to pass a few minutes in a cave.

    Aids for descending overhung ledges...?

Actually, the rock and the ledge itself were really sound. I don't remember even a single pebble falling off to be honest...

    Aids for descending overhung ledges...?

That's certainly an option. For reference as other's mentioned, I did have a rope pad down to protect the rope over the edge. There would have been other places more friendly to start off (less ledge to deal with) but this place had the best landing zone, and with the best trees to tie off to...

    Aids for descending overhung ledges...?

The ledge in question for reference. Notice how there's no chance of my feet reaching anything under the ledge...

    Aids for descending overhung ledges...?

Today I took the family hiking to a nearby nature preserve, and we setup a rappel near a waterfall just for fun. There was a "severe" overhang at the ledge - let's just call it 8 feet/ 2meters - long enough that one's legs could not touch the rock face under the overhang... Is there a decent...

    First Aid Kits

The straps get annoying. Especially the way a bight of webbing is fed through the top grommet, it makes it fussy to adjust the straps to equal length. (Thinking about it, I wander if I'd be better served by just making new fixed-length straps (plural) out of webbing or very stretchy/dynamic...

    First Aid Kits

Well, for photo gear (IE, sensitive electronics) I can't imagine much else besides those pelican cases. So on those kinds of trips, I guess you just embrace the suck and carry on. For normal/recreation caving - which is the kind of caving that I do - I use a large Swaygo pack, and simply fit...

    First Aid Kits

That doesn't look fun to carry through a cave. I've carried photo gear for pals through a cave in those pelican cases, and quite frankly, it sucks...

    Carabiners - Uses & Preferences...

I'm surprised that so many of you all use & enjoy auto-lockers. Maybe I should look for *mostly* auto-lockers in my kit, and perhaps Grivel twin-gates for the cows-tails. I imagine it would be hard to go wrong with that setup.

    SRT Harnesses for Kids...

AV makes some. However, in her case there really wouldn't be room on the waist belt to attach them. (So I certainly can't blame MTDE for leaving them off, right...!)

    Carabiners - Uses & Preferences...

It's been a while since I've seen an argument on carabiners, so I figured I'd stir the pot a bit... Actually, I'm putting together a list of gear to get for my young daughter's introduction to SRT... And possibly fiddling with my kit as well, sharing between us as we build out her kit...

    SRT Harnesses for Kids...

I wanted to circle back and give a quick follow up on the issue, and the MTDE Club harness for children, if for nothering else, posterity's sake perhaps. The harness worked perfectly! It would be "even nicer" if it had more substantial gear loops, or riser straps, but those are just minor...

    Sheet steel

I would suggest calling around to a few fabrication shops with either a press-brake, or laser machines. If you have a drawing - even better, a CAD drawing - a laser-cut sheet is no issue for a shop like that. If you have a sketch, send it to me and I can put it in CAD without too much fuss...

    Wave pool in Taiwan...........

That's wild. Really shows the magnitude. I wander what a seismometer would show at his precise time & place.

    First Aid Kits

Additionally, when the family comes, in their packs, they all get a garbage bag of their own, a piece of mylar insulation (seating pad), spare batteries, and a spare change of gloves & socks maybe. Add snacks & water as one sees fit.

    First Aid Kits

From memory - I just pared down my kit slightly, so it's somewhat still fresh. Not all of it medical. Think first aid + handyman repair kit... -nitrile gloves -toilet paper -wet wipes -hand sanitizer -plastic grocery bags -small bandages, steri-strips -super glue -gorilla tape (think super...

My book "A series of short passages"

Received my copy in the post the other day. Beautifully made book Graham! Whoever did your layout deserves a huge pat on the back. I've really enjoyed reading so far. The bite-sized stores are nice for slow readers like myself. Thanks again for your generous offer.
