Wind turbines causing rain? [Split from Mossdale.]

I've often thought that as with other sources of power there may be as yet unanticipated consequences to the use of wind turbines, as they become increasingly common surely they will reach a point where the combined air-braking slows the rotation of the Earth causing untold mischief! Fortunately...

    Adrift in a Virtual World

I've recently been looking at secondhand vehicles on eBay. A lot of the sellers now are adding description clearly written by AI. Most of them read like the original manufacturers blurb used when the vehicle was new - which make sense as I guess that will be the most trusted info AI finds on a...

Is it time to wheel this out again?

    Scout Group Numbers

Surely that means if your outing involves less than 4 people it must include underground activity. If you want an outing with no underground activity then you must have 4 or more people.

Best glue to stick the soles of my shoes back together?

You could combine both and use Evo-Stik contact adhesive. I've had some success repairing shoes with it. Best not used in a confined space though.

    Wrysgan Purchase

I'll be around that way over Easter and might take a wander around Wrysgan, has the previously open access changed with the change in ownership?

    Stolen motorcycle

As someone who is considering fitting trackers to my bikes, I'm guessing it hasn't been much use in locating it?

    Charity challenges

I guess we live in a time with a population density such that although regularly getting outdoors into your local countryside is generally agreed to be good for the individual it would also be a disaster for the countryside if every individual did it...

    Charity challenges

I'd say something is a bit amiss there if the amount raised per person was only £30. The cost of the average 'experience' type parachute jump looks to be around £250-£300. I would have thought the aim with any of these sort of things should be to raise at least more than the participation cost...

BCA statement on peer to peer training

I think it's entirely natural (and probably even the desired effect?) that when a statement on responsibilities like this is put out by a governing body it causes folk to pause and think about how/if they are fulfilling their responsibilities - and following on from that natural to ask...

BCA statement on peer to peer training

Within recreational caving clubs have a responsibility to check that leaders of novices on their trips are suitably competent So, if a club has an open diary where anyone can post up trips, organise a weekend etc. for other members to join in. Does the club have to get formally involved to...

    Ingleborough Hall closure consultation; petition

I have signed, although I am not local. We have lost our own local authority outdoor centre in recent years which was a great asset, both our girls used it during school holidays and you could even just rock up there and hire kayaks and canoes etc. A mates holiday job there when we were young...

Exploring with Fighters - a warning to all mine explorers, cavers and URBEXers

I wonder if there are other hobbies and interests that have similar concerns  I know there is a bit of unease in the car/motorcycle world about some channels behaviour on public roads, there's certainly been some contoversy among 'vanlife' channels over people showing good free...

First aid designed for solo adventurers

Absolutely agree, I am very much a sunday afternoon caver (well more of a mine explorer), in mountaineering terms if most folk here are serious alpinists, I'm strolling up Catbells. As such I'm greatly in favour of the solo trip, I'm not spoiling anyone elses day if I decide I don't fancy...

Exploring with Fighters - a warning to all mine explorers, cavers and URBEXers

I make Youtube videos too! My channel is not specifically about Mine Exploration but it does feature from time to time. Unfortunately I think YT done badly does contribute towards loss of access, deterioration in relationships with landowners or at the very least a loss of unrestricted open...
