    Descent 301

Quote from Martyn, the day after he took that fantastic photo (and the cover photo). He's not wrong!

Fun rope rigging projects in a garden to please friends

Possibly not quite what you're thinking of, but a number of years ago, I set up an obstacle course in the woods for my younger brother's (10th?) birthday party. From memory (and it's quite a long time ago now!), I had a horizontal rope bridge (two ropes side by side), a vertical rope bridge...

A new cave on Mendips - The Last White Rabbit Hole (Tuska's Last)

There was a good talk on this at the J-Rat's by @JohnMCooper, being one of only two qualifying entries over 50m. I really ought to get down there myself some time!

    Storm Bert

Rickford Rising was up about half a metre on usual conditions yesterday, with visibility reduced to about 200mm, which made working with a 600mm drill bit rather interesting! The night before, it was still running pretty much clear...

Children's Caving books up for grabs

I'm at work right now, so no quotes from the kids to hand, but I found this "letter" in my pocket that my daughter wrote me recently, requesting a "caveing" party for her birthday.

    Swildons Sump 2 Dive Line

Better late than never. A few weeks ago, we replaced both old anchors between Sump 2 and 3 with resin anchors. There is more detail in the November 2024 CSCC Newsletter.

    WIN 10 DMM Screwgate Karabiners!!

For my second entry, I'll stick to my own tale and recall a visit to the back of Brownley Hill Mine in Nenthead. Towards the (then?) limit of access, the horse level had collapsed and a route up through the stopes above became necessary. Progressing at the higher level, a number of ore hoppers...

    WIN 10 DMM Screwgate Karabiners!!

With great difficulty, by all accounts! Lots of rope stretch and pulling into all the wrong places...

    WIN 10 DMM Screwgate Karabiners!!

This isn't my story, but it's too good a rigging-story not to tell and I don't believe that the protagonist is a regular forum user... I shall apologise now for any inadvertent inaccuracies in my retelling and if by any chance this wins it, I'll pledge half the winnings to the subject of this...

    Hello everyone, I’m Ibuki Nakahara!

Or perhaps we're helping to train the AI bot by replying to this thread and perhaps that's the purpose?

    Aberfan

I think all of us probably live with one legacy of Aberfan, whether or not we know it. Following his controversial role in the aftermath of the disaster, Lord Robens was instrumental in bringing forward the Health and Safety at Work Act. Despite all the complaints we hear these days of Health...

Regulator question : Poseidon... worth it?

The general concensus, speaking to various CDG divers is that the DST is just more to go wrong. It's quite easy to set up your hoses in a comfortable way for either side without the swivel, so why add the extra weight and extra mode if failure? I'll caveat that by saying that no two CDG divers...

    Cylinders Illusion Pot

I'd be very surprised (and a little worried) if anyone was still using A-clamp bottles for cave diving! Mind you, the alloy crabs don't seem to have fuzzed up too much, so they can't be that old...

    Redhouse Lane Swallet Update

This is definitely one of my favourite bits of the cave, though bits of Pissimism Passage are also well up there.

    Redhouse Lane Swallet Update

Well I was quite excited by it! Excited enough to submerge myself up to the neck and check out the sizable continuation following the dip of the roof.

More kit found in swildon's entrance

I doubt we lost anything, but Steph Tidey was in with a group and mentioned losing something.

    Redhouse Lane Swallet Update

I shouldn't say it, but it's quite a relief that the cave has finally shut us out for a bit. While it was still passable, it was hard to justify doing anything else, as every trip might have been the last! Time to rest the knees for a bit and get back to some neglected projects.
