    Wezzit?

At a guess, you didn't rig the 2nd part of the pitch but just walked down round the side of the chamber (carefully)

I meant to put it on the club meets list, but forgot due being old and infirm of mind, no doubt. Next time...

Converting coordinates to What 3 words

Thank you for that. I will probably spend hours roaming the country, guffawing. For instance, the Palace of Westminster is bog.knobend.scrotum.pigfucker Coincidence? Surely not ...

    Parking for Dry Gill

Thanks Pitlamp. Also thanks to @Alex - your Black Rose report was very helpful finding the entrance (y) But never mind knee and elbow pads - I should have taken a bucket of KY jelly - I was defeated by the last squeeze before the streamway :(

    Parking for Dry Gill

Looking at Street View, the roadside verges closest to Dry Gill cave (just beyond Twisleton Dale House on Scales Moor) have 'No Parking' signs on, but there is some sign that there is (paid for) parking at TD House. Can anyone with local knowledge advise on the best place to park for an evening...

    Caves with exposed rigging/traverses?

I'm finding this thread quite useful, as it gives me a check list of trips to avoid :)

    Utter drivel?

In a 1999 novel, David Mitchell envisages an all-powerful - but benevolent - AI (Ghostwritten), which ought to be reassuring, but isn't, really. Great book, though

    Reading Glasses, any good options?

I find bifocals a good alternative to constantly swapping between reading and distance but a) they're a bit expensive to be taking underground (bound to get scratched, however careful you are), and b) it's fine moving around if you're looking up, but not so much if you have to look down (eg down...

    Warning: Shuttleworth entrance

I noticed in the BCA agenda, the CNCC report included this: "Shuttleworth Pot has had a restoration of shoring at the bottom of the entrance pitch." Does this mean some more work has been done since Andy Walsh's report above, and is the warning here still accurate? Thanks

    From the Archives

That is a fascinating site - thanks for posting! The quality of the photos is amazing, given the equipment of the time. I also love: the lady stepping delicately across the plank in Long Churns, the chap going down Dowkabottom in shorts - in winter, and indeed Harold himself in shorts in Long...

Where goes rift off GG main chamber ?

Thanks for all the comments, and apologies for any confusion. In my mind, when you get down into main chamber from SE Passage, you're looking along the length of the chamber, so the far side is the far end, towards the West. Anyway, I'm now sure I was in West Fissure, as the entrance was right...

Where goes rift off GG main chamber ?

Thanks Lankyman. I have the 1996 NC2, but the description of West Fissure does match what I saw, so I think you're right. Is there really a hundred foot pitch down from there, though? I must have already got to the level of the main chamber floor. One fine day, I'll have to revisit with some...
