    Lost - Purse

Lost - 1 purse (not mine!  ;)) The young lady in question thinks that she may have lost it in or around the Swildons barn on Thursday night. If anyone knows anything, can they let me know and I'll pass on their details to her. Ta.

What's the best knot to use on a cowstail

It's a much more elegant solution than having two separate cowtails. It has the same bulk at the central maillon that two separate cowstails would cause and the advantage of a short cowstail for traverse lines for hardly any extra rope in the bargain, and for the paranoid, there is no single...

What's the best knot to use on a cowstail

I'm a happy convert to this setup which I found in life on a line v2. At first I thought it would be too bulky at the central maillon but it's not, and I like the fact that each long cowstail has a separate attachment at the central maillon in case the central loop is the point of failure. It...

    GB cave

Hopefully there's no need any more. The 20m long sump that was blocking access to the dig face should now remain empty (and therefore passable) in all but very, very wet periods because it now drains all the time into a lower chamber via a newly dug trench. That said, we still don't know what...

Forum time - 24 hour clock or AM/PM?

Am I missing something? If you choose a different time format in the Look and Layout Preferences section, you can choose 24 hour clock anyway, any of the formats which are HH:MM:SS (without a/pm at the end) will display things in 24 hour clock. Unless of course that's only just been added.

Already Rigged - What Is The Protocol?

It depends on what I find rigged. If I find kit that's badly rigged/no lifeline there, I rig my own in its place, otherwise I leave mine at the top to be rigged, with my ladder in place but still coiled up so that it can't be missed by an exiting party.

    New mendip cave map

My reaction when I saw this was - great, someone has done what I've been meaning to do ever since I started caving - arranged information about Mendip caves in a way that is categorised by ease of access. When you want to go somewhere new, you can spend forever leafing through Mendip...

    Goatchurch 01/03/09

I caved in goatchurch in trainers, two inglesport bags with holes cut in them done up with gaffa tape and a candle (which was soon upgraded to my duo when it kept going out). I'd forgotten my kit. I was then asked by a few scouts: "Are you a professional caver?" Did I look like one?

Entrance series collapse Slaughter Stream Cave

Does anyone have any recommendations for places to go instead? We had planned to go to Slaughter Stream this weekend and now don't have time to sort out anything else which needs a leader/key (unless any are reading this and are feeling benevolent!) Obviously we can go towards the Clydach...

    The Scurion?

Naturally you'll know this but, just make damn sure that you don't cock up and let the battery short circuit!

cheap light upgrade for a club

Well, for our club I just got hold of 5 battery packs from old petzl lazers (Inglesport had some) which take 4.5v lantern cells, 5 x 4.5v LED replacement bulbs (http://www.tek-tite.com/src/product_info.php?id=2732) and 5 old FX heads rewired to some spade connectors. The result is 5 adequate...

    Petzl Duo 5 LED upgrade?

I'm willing to bet that provided the polarity of the 14 LED module is the same as the 5 led one, or that you put it in reversed if need be, that the power levels of the 14 LED module will work just fine in the duo5 housing since it's the toggling between power states that does the magic.

    Virus Warnings Popups

Not sure that they'll ever be that effective on Linux, it's often a complete arse to get new things to work even when you're sitting there trying and have full administrative privileges!  :)

    Helmets: Modes of failure

This got me wondering, have people got any stories and preferably pictures of their damaged/visibly undamaged (although obviously potentially unsafe) lids after a significant impact? I'm interested in what ways different helmets have failed in different circumstances and also, if anybody has had...

    Rope Washer Plans

Yep, that's what I did when I made our club washer. I used a sawn down ladder rung with a bolt through it as a bearing for the pulley, it's just the right size. I didn't want a threaded bolt wearing through the pulley.
